Becoming a coach

One of the decisions that I’ve taken during my sabbatical is to start a dedicated coaching education. A beautiful way to illustrate this decision is the Frangipani flower that is a symbol for new life and new beginnings.

What is coaching?

There are thousands of coaches, hundreds of coaching training, and dozens of coaching definitions. I like the description of the International Coaching Federation who defines “coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

Why coaching?

Based on the feedback that I received from colleagues, peers, and friends at the end of last year, I should apply more, i.e. the following strengths:

  • listen well and make people grow
  • empower people to find solutions
  • build healthy team environments
  • offer aura of calmness

These are traits that offer a direct segway to a coaching role. In addition, I would like to improve my communication skills further.

The feedback confirmed to me that I should invest in becoming a better leader and peer. I’ve had multiple coaching-like roles in the past like “head of”, “design thinking coach”, or “mentor”. However, I had not invested resources into formal education to build a solid foundation yet.

This training will certainly also positively influence my existing relationships with family and friends.

Why Co-Active Training Institute?

For me, it was essential to learn based on an evidence-based framework focusing on the individual as a whole, with an international range of experienced trainers, access to a network of professional colleagues, and the opportunity to practice what I’ve learned right from the start. “Learning by doing” is my preferred way of learning. Hence, the experiential learning offered by the Co-Active Training Institute is a very good fit.

Thank you to Christian, Christiane, Giovanna, Franziska, Harald, Inga, Ingo, Jochen, Mahssa, Martina, Oliver, Peter, Pivi, and Silke, from whom I received insights into coaching practice and education paths.

As we still have to cope with a pandemic situation, I’ll start the education during my sabbatical. I’m convinced that online courses will have an even more profound impact, especially as the future of work relationships will be hybrid.

How can you benefit?

So, if you want to change direction in your current professional life, feel that your energy is blocked, or you are uncertain about specific decisions and are ready for an experiment:

During my course, I’ll have to practice what I’ve learned right from the beginning. If you are eager to learn more about yourself and willing to be one of the first coachees, please contact me via messaging and tell me why you would like to be coached by me. I’ll offer coaching sessions in English, (Swiss) German, and French.
